As we continue on this journey of seeking truth, clarity, and intentional living, I’m excited to share a deeply personal path I’ve recently committed to: achieving a healthier me, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically, through the powerful practices of Forest Therapy, Sound Healing, and Forest Bathing.
While I’ve always valued time in nature, it wasn’t until this past March, shortly after closing POPS, that I truly shifted from occasional outdoor breaks to a consistent, intentional practice. In that time of transition and reflection, I found that the greatest principle of all is honoring the temple we’ve been given: our own body and mind. This commitment hasn’t been about adding more tasks; it’s been about stepping away from the noise and stepping into true restoration.
Nature’s Prescription: Healing from the Inside Out
I was astonished by the tangible physical benefits of this intentional connection. Through consistent Forest Bathing, I’ve seen a marked improvement in my liver and kidney function, alongside a significant boost to my mental well-being. This powerful, physiological healing is accessible to us all.
This shift underscores a critical point: The discipline of principle must extend to how we treat ourselves.
Finding Sanctuary in the Trees: The Power of Forest Therapy
The modern concept of Forest Therapy, or Shinrin-yoku (Forest Bathing), might sound trendy, but its roots are ancient and universal. It’s the simple, profound act of consciously connecting with the forest atmosphere.
I’ve been learning to move beyond a simple walk and to truly be present among the trees. While the scientific benefits are incredible—reduced stress hormones, lower blood pressure, and a boost to the immune system from inhaling beneficial compounds called phytoncides, the spiritual benefits have been transformative:
Mental Clarity: The constant mental chatter seems to dissolve against the backdrop of rustling leaves and birdsong.
Emotional Release: There’s a calming, non-judgmental presence in the woods that allows space for emotions to surface and pass.
Spiritual Connection: As the Bible reminds us, creation itself declares the glory of God (Psalm 19:1). In the silence of the forest, it feels easier to hear that divine whisper. It’s a place where, like the Psalmist, my soul is truly restored (Psalm 23:2-3).
Why This Matters for Young Men and Women:
In an era defined by digital stress and anxiety, Forest Therapy offers a profound, accessible alternative for restoring mental and emotional well-being. It helps move the nervous system from the stressed “fight or flight” mode to the relaxed “rest and digest” mode, providing a crucial foundation for intentional living and principled decision-making.
The Resonance of Healing: Sound Therapy Pairing the grounded energy of the forest with the vibrational power of Sound Healing has been the ultimate reset button. Sound healing, often involving crystal singing bowls or gongs, works on the principle that everything vibrates. Stress, illness, and tension create disharmony. By bathing the body in pure, resonant frequencies, we can help guide the body’s cells and energy back into a state of coherence and peace. The effect is immediate and deeply restful. It’s deep healing that works on a cellular level, enhancing the body’s innate ability to recover and maintain health.
Moving Forward: A Space for Principles in Practice
This is not a destination, but a continuing journey of principles in practice. As I dedicate time each week to these practices, I am committed to showing up for myself first, so that I can show up better for my family, my community, and my purpose.
I am excited to announce my goal to start a program very soon through POPS to offer a guided space and resources for young men and women to experience this restorative power of nature and sound.
I hope this inspires you to look around your own environment, be it a nearby park, a few potted plants, or even a quiet corner of your home, and consciously choose a moment of restorative presence today.
What is one small step you can take today to honor your body and soul?
